Creating Your Own Reality

Understanding the Law of Attraction

Like quantum physicists probing inside the atom and investigating its structure, exploratory surgeons of the soul delve into the universal laws that underpin our existence. One such law is the law of attraction. The law of attraction simply states: That which is likened to itself is drawn. Like attracts like. Our thoughts are like magnets, so what we think about returns to us. Jesus said long ago, "What you sow, so shall you reap." That is the law of attraction at work; understand and employ it and your life will change.

To remedy our lives we need to investigate our thoughts. Do we spend the bulk of our time thinking about what we want or what we don't want? Be honest with yourself. Self-love asks us to celebrate our specialties and turn our vulnerabilities into strengths. We do not deny our needed areas of improvement; we simply transform them through the daily practice of self-love, exploratory soul searching and positive re-programming statements. If we continue to focus on what isn't right with ourselves or other people, we lessen the flow of our God-given creative abilities and remain stuck in fear, guilt, anger and resentment. Consciously employ the law of attraction; remember, like attracts like. Do you fear being sick, if so, be aware that by law of attraction you may be drawing sickness to you. On the other hand, do you affirm being well, if so, smile into the knowingness that you are attracting optimal health. The law of attraction is like the law of gravity...it is ever present and always in effect. Denial, judging and blaming make us more susceptible to those negative emotions we do not want to attract. In fact, many people are adept at focusing on problems and can articulate very clearly what isn't working in the world. We desperately need people to be equally adept at solutions! Focusing on the negative cuts us off from possible solutions and makes us feel frustrated, disheartened and disillusioned. Look around you. Are people being proactive and creating viable solutions to complex problems or are they simply lamenting about what is wrong?

Self mastery requires an optimistic attitude and a strong sense of self-determination. What differentiates a self master from a self-doubter is that the self master is willing to stand in and "show up" for life and not be a passive recipient to whatever life throws his way. Self masters understand that their life is in their control. Self masters focus on solutions rather than problems. A recent international study showed that those who feel they have the most control over their lives have 60 percent lower risk of death in any given year than those who feel helpless. Researchers found that this sense of one’s own power is a major reason optimists are healthier. Conversely, studies revealed that feeling helpless is extremely stressful and can have deleterious effects on our health.  (Excerpted from "Exploratory Surgery of the Soul, A Journey to Self Mastery by Peggy Farmer, Ph.D., copyrighted.)
